The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training On Learning Disability and Autism (Tier-2)

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism seeks to provide the health and social care workforce with the right skillset and knowledge to provide compassionate and informed care to autistic people and people with a learning disability. This requirement is set out in the Health and Care Act 2022.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is the standarised training that was developed for this purpose and is the government’s preferred and approved training for health and social care staff. 

This revolutionary programme was designed from the ground up with input from people with learning difficulties and autistic people autism, as well as their families and carers. Employers using The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism can have assurance that this training is recommended by national bodies advising on standards for the sector. 

The training packages are standardised and delivered by approved trainers. This means that the health and social care workforce develops a common understanding of key issues and that the same language is used across health and care organisations. Who is this training for?

This training is ideal for all staff working within the health and social care sector, all CQC registered service providers and the following workforces: nursing, allied health profession, dental and oral health, pharmacy, psychological professions, healthcare science, medical and medical associates, clinical support worker and carers, social workers, board members and executives, estates and facilities, corporate, administrative and clerical workforce, volunteers, students and trainees.

Course design

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism comes in two Tiers of training. Staff will undertake Tier 1 or Tier 2, depending on their role. 

Oliver’s Tier 2 training is for people who may need to provide care and support for autistic people or people with a learning disability. This training is co-delivered with experts with lived experience of learning disability and autism:
